Calcutta: Aditya Mehta won the Snooker Shoot-out Championship at the Hindusthan Club, here on Sunday. In the final match, Mehta defeated Dhreerendra Baid 1-0. Eleven Indian professional players and 27 amateurs from Calcutta took part in this one-day tournament.

Mehta's run was smooth throughout. He knocked out Piyush Bhagat in the pre-quarter final, Nirmal Khemka in quarters and Ankit Kariwala in the semi-finals.

Baid got the better of reigning Indian pool champion Himanshu Jain in semi-final, with an extraordinary game. Himanshu was almost close to a victory, but Dheerendra steeled his nerves and made a clearance of 25 points (green to black) to secure his place in the final.

Mehta, however, had to give up his pro-status in January, because of a shoulder injury. But he is hoping to get back his cut soon. "I have no control over the injury, but I am looking forward to making the cut again," said Mehta.

Mehta played his last tournament in January. So after winning this tournament he sounded happy. "Everybody loves to win, I am no different," Mehta revealed. Mehta also encouraged Baid. "He is a very good player. Anything could have happened at the shoot-out. It is like Twenty20," said Mehta.
