Calcutta: Shikhar Dhawan will be out of India’s remaining matches in the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka in order to attend his ailing mother.

The left-handed batsman will be flying back home on Sunday and so, he misses the fifth and final ODI as well as the one-off T20I on September 6 in Colombo.

A replacement will not be named for the remaining two matches of India’s limited-overs leg of the tour, said a BCCI release on Saturday. Dhawan’s mother, as per the release, is stable and recovering well.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced that Team India opener Mr Shikhar Dhawan would be leaving for India tomorrow i.e. September 3rd to see his ailing mother. Mr Dhawan’s mother is stable and is recovering well at the moment.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided not to name any replacement for the 5th ODI and the only T20I, scheduled on September 3rd and 6th respectively, in Colombo,” the release said.

Dhawan has been in pretty good form since the Champions Trophy and grown in strength in the current tour. Adjudged Man of the Series in Tests, he began the ODIs in a superb manner as well, smashing an unbeaten 132 in the opening game and then hitting a breezy 49 in the next.

In the third and fourth ODIs, though, he couldn’t get much, scoring five and four only.  Ajinkya Rahane might get an opportunity to step into the XI now that Dhawan is not available.

Missing out on the coming two matches shouldn't affect Dhawan's rhythm and tempo as India will be hosting the Aussies for a limited-overs series in two weeks’ time.
