Jamshedpur/ Mumbai: It does not matter which side he plays for, but Jharkhand’s Saurabh Tiwary, who was scooped up for a cool Rs 7.6 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore during today’s IPL auction, will miss his Mumbai Indians teammate and mentor Sachin Tendulkar in the dressing room.
Other than that, the southpaw has little regret about not donning the Mumbai Indians jersey for the next IPL season.
“Aakhir match toh match hain. Chahen woh Mumbai Indians ho ya Royal Challengers (A match is a match. Whether it’s Mumbai Indians or Royal Challengers),” Saurabh told The Telegraph but revealed his mind when he didn’t fail to mention the bat the little maestro presented him for his scintillating performance for Mumbai Indians during IPL III.
In Mumbai for a T-20 fixture, the Jamshedpur-based batsman added that he had no say in the auction as bidders were free to pick players of their choice. “There was some confusion during the auction. Kings XI also bid for me. But I’m glad that I am turning out for a new side this IPL,” the 21-year-old, said.
He was referring to the high drama that unfolded in the auction room as an irate Siddarth Mallya protested vigorously against the decision of the auctioneer to allow King’s XI to make a counter-bid to Royal Challenger’s offer on Tiwary. Royal Challenger then went ahead and bettered its bid for Tiwary and took home the prize.
Auctioneer Richard Madley had waited a fair amount of time before bringing the hammer down on Royal Challengers’ bid for Tiwary. But even after bringing the hammer down, Madley suddenly announced that he had spotted King’s XI putting up a counter bid.
