Calcutta: Mithali Raj was named captain of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 team, the ICC announced on Monday.
The 34-year-old was selected as captain after she led India by example, scoring 409 runs in the competition that inspired the team to reach only its second World Cup final, where it lost to England by nine runs at Lord’s on Sunday.
Mithali was at her best in a virtual quarter final against New Zealand in Derby when she scored 109 to steer her side to a 186-run victory.
Besides Mithali, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma were the other two Indians included in the ICC team.
