Sydney/Calcutta: Jason Holder was spot on in his analysis of the West Indies' World Cup campaign, which ended in a quarter final loss against New Zealand, in Wellington, on Saturday.

New Zealand opener Martin Guptill hit a record 237 not out to set up his team's crushing 143-run victory over the West Indies. New Zealand scored 206 off the last 15 overs to reach 393 for six and then dismissed the Windies for 250 in 30.3 overs.

Speaking at the post-match media conference, captain Holder pointed at inconsistency as his team's main problem. "We've just been inconsistent from the tour of South Africa to this World Cup. We've had some good games and we've had some bad games, but we've never been consistent going forward. We've got to be a lot more consistent than we have been in the last few months," Holder said.

Admitting that it was too good a batting display from the New Zealand team, Holder added that they made their job difficult by not taking the chances. "It was obviously a good innings... They really took the game away from us... Obviously we put them down early and we had a few half chances which we probably could have taken. But that's cricket... We need to respond really well when we are bowling. We didn't rely on our yorkers and we paid for it."

Commenting further on his team's bowling which allowed the Black Caps to post an almost 400-run total, Holder said: "We were too full and we didn't come back with our yorkers. That's it. I don't think we need to overanalyse things."

Holder credited Chris Gayle, who was the top scorer of the side with 61 off 33 deliveries, for his aggressive approach and denied that there were any fitness issues with him on the day. "Chris has been the same he has been in the last few days... He's never been one of the most agile players around, and he's quite slow and that's Chris. We needed him to come out and be fairly aggressive. We were chasing 394... Credit to him for the way he played. But I can't speak on his future... At the end of the day, that's up to Chris."

With Phil Simmons taking over as the new coach of the West Indies side, Holder hopes to sit with him and map the way forward. "We don't have one-day cricket until the end of the year. I think our main focus at present is to get ready for the England series.

We'll obviously sit down and come up with a plan going forward. But, yeah, on the bright side, we don't have to worry about it. This is the first time I will be working with Phil, so I'm looking forward to that," Holder said.
