Calcutta: It may turn out to be a close contest for supremacy, between trainer Vijay Singh’s Dandified (Christopher Alford-up) and Bharath Singh’s Malpensa (A. Sandesh), in the 1,400m Mayfowl Cup, which takes the centre stage in Saturday’s 10-event card. Both horses boast of winning the 2,000 Guineas in their Classic years but it is the first time that they would be crossing swords. However, the form and performance favours Dandified — a winner of four ‘terms’ races during the monsoon season. Both are doing well in their morning workouts.
The 1,600m Harendro Kristo Dutt Memorial Cup may also see a close fight between Vijay’s vastly improved horse Audrick and trainer D. David’s champ Captain Courageous.
