Be it the cash or the charisma, maiden IPL contracts are always special for cricketers. Here are reactions from some of them:

Jhye Richardson (Punjab Kings, Rs 14cr)

“My name came up and I got this wave of (nausea) just not knowing what to expect. I mentally exhausted myself of feeling all these emotions, of feeling sick and excited. The emotions just take over and you forget — you double check (the price, Rs 14cr, he was bought for), you triple check it, you quadruple check it. It took a moment and it’s still sinking in at the moment.”

Shahrukh Khan (Punjab Kings, Rs 5.25cr)

“I was not nervous when my name came up in the auction. I was overjoyed. My (Tamil Nadu) teammates in the (team) bus were very happy, especially captain Dinesh Karthik… I won’t think too much about the IPL now and put pressure on myself as it is some two months away.
My focus now is the Vijay Hazare (Trophy).”

Arjun Tendulkar

Arjun Tendulkar (Mumbai Indians, Rs 20 lakh)

“Since childhood I have always been a die hard fan of Mumbai Indians. I would like to thank the coaches and support staff who showed faith in me. I am excited to join the MI Paltan and can’t wait to wear the blue and gold.”

“I woke up around midnight and decided to check the phone. Rather than trying to avoid the situation, (I thought) I’ll sit back and enjoy it. It was certainly a weird hour-and-a-half waiting for my name to be called up. I had a message from Shane Bond (former New Zealand pacer and Mumbai Indians bowling coach) as it was going and he said, ‘How good is this’. I didn’t actually know what the amount of money (Rs 15cr), how that translated to New Zealand dollars.”
