Calcutta: The India versus South Africa Golf Test Series, which begins at the RCGC on Friday, has an IPL connection.

Jeoff Taylor, the president of the South African Golf Association, has revealed that though this meet is a first of a kind, the RCGC course is popular among the South African golfer thanks to the Proteas cricketers, many of whom have frequented the course in the city during their IPL stints.

"The South African players who come for the IPL have all played on the RCGC course, so we have heard a lot about it," Taylor said. He also said that the popularity of golf in India is "on a rise" as compared to other countries like the US.
