New Delhi, Nov. 29 :    New Delhi, Nov. 29:  Several crucial decisions were taken at the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) general body meeting here today. IOA president Suresh Kalmadi said that India will bid for the 2006 Asian Games. Delhi or Mumbai will be the cities projected to host the Games, he said. Rahul Bajaj, president of the Confederation of Indian Industries, was named vice-president of the IOA. Others discussions were on the inclusion of kabaddi in the 2002 Pusan Asian Games and the Indian contingent for next year?s Sydney Olympics. It was announced that India will participate in men?s hockey, badminton, tennis, rowing, boxing and women?s weightlifting in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Kalmadi said that Malaysia and Hong Kong were the other bidders for the 2006 Asian Games. However, he was confident of staging the event in India. He also said that since government funding for sports in India is on the decline, help from the industries has become necessary. Mr Bajaj was requested to ensure that the industries supported Olympic events for the next eight years. The plan, Kalmadi said, is to get one industry to sponsor one game for which they will get some tax exemption. Kabaddi has been excluded from the 2002 Asian Games, reports UNI. The IOA president said the organisers of the next Games have informed the Olympic Council of Asia that they do not want to include kabaddi.
