IFA retains play-off final State yoga

l The Indian Football Association kept open the option of a play-off final to decide the Super Division champions, this year. A meeting on Thursday, however, decided to scratch the system from next year.

Most of the members argued in favour of retaining the play-off final this year since the clubs participating had not been informed earlier about its abolishment.

Bowling meet

l Wockhardt Medical B and Prudential ICICI won their matches against Tata Telecom C and Cognizant Technology C, respectively, in the Merchants’ Cup bowling meet at Nicco Super Bowl on Thursday. In other matches, Golden Steel beat BNK e-Solutions-B while Computech International defeated Bayview Technology-B.

l Over 450 took part in the state yoga championships held at Bijaygarh last week. Of them, 48 — top three finishers in 16 age groups — have qualified for the national yoga meet, to be held in Jabalpur next month.

CHESS: The Telegraph Schools’ meet at Gorky Sadan from 3.30 pm.

FOOTBALL: CFL first division group A: Peerless SC vs Police AC (Mohun Bagan, 3.15 pm). Third division: championship play-off (quarter finals)— Town Club vs Jugashanti SC (BG Press); Taltala ES vs YMSA (High Court). Relegation play-off (1st leg) — SAI (East Zone) vs Uttarpara SC (YMCA). Matches at 3 pm, unless otherwise mentioned.

SQUASH: East India junior open: Semi-finals at Calcutta Racket Club.

BOWLING: Merchants’ Cup at Nicco Super Bowl from 6 pm.

BADMINTON: State meet at SAI.

GENERAL: National Sports Day celebration by BHA at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra from 3 pm.

WATERPOLO: Dr. Sarkar Allen meet at Vidyasagar Ydyan (YMCA) from 3.30 pm.
