Calcutta: Hanumant ‘Chotu’ Singh, a centurion on Test debut, remains in critical condition.

The 67-year-old, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Monday, is still in the ICU.

“He’s on dialysis and there’s fluid in his lungs… His liver isn’t functioning at all… We’re praying. The next 24 hours, we reckon, are going to be critical,” a relative told The Telegraph on Friday night.

Hailing from the royal family of Banswara, Hanumant has served cricket in different capacities: Selection committee chairman, coach (at home and overseas), manager and an ICC Match Referee.

An accomplished strokemaker in his playing days, he’s now battling it out on a dicey wicket.
