Mumbai: “Shaun’s been striking the ball very well throughout this season... It’s pleasing that he’s become the Orange Cap holder... We enjoyed his and (Adam) Gilchrist’s batting last night...”
That came from a proud father, Geoff Marsh, when he spoke to The Telegraph on Wednesday afternoon.
Asked if he’d congratulated Shaun, Geoff replied: “Not personally... My wife (Michelle) did telephone him and conveyed my ‘well done’ too.”
In fact, Shaun’s immediate family (others being younger sister Melissa and younger brother Mitchell) didn’t miss a minute of his epic 206-run partnership with Gilchrist for the Kings XI Punjab, on Tuesday.
All were together at the Trident Bandra-Kurla.
Geoff, who is coaching the Pune Warriors India, a franchise for whom Mitchell plays, said: “It’s because we were watching the Kings’ innings that we delayed our supper and had it unusually late, around 10 pm.”
Not that anybody in the family complained.
