Miami: Jamaican opening batsman Chris Gayle will captain the West Indies for their five one-day matches on their tour of Zimbabwe later this month. Gayle, who took charge of the one-day team on this year’s tour of England, replaces skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan who will miss the Zimbabwe tour due to injury. Brenton Parchment, Gayle’s opening batting partner for Jamaica, is set to make his debut after earning his first call-up in the 15-man squad.

London: Fast bowler Steve Harmison is to join the England side in Sri Lanka on Tuesday ahead of next month’s three-Test series. Harmison, 29, took 13 wickets in two matches for the South African team Highveld Lions after he was asked to prove his form and fitness following a hernia operation. England start their tour with a three-day match against a President’s XI in Colombo on Tuesday.
Calcutta: Bengal were bundled out for 277 against hosts Jharkhand on the first day of the Polly Umrigar (U-15) Trophy. Sandipan Das top scored with 78 while Pratik Sarkar scored 41. At close, Jharkhand were 47 for one.

Hobart: Australia’s Darren Lehmann announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Monday. The 37-year-old said he would call it quits after playing two more matches this week, ending a first-class career spanning two decades. Lehmann played 27 Tests , scoring 1798 runs at an average of 44.95, plus 117 ODIs, including the 1999 and 2003 World Cup finals won by Australia.
Wellington: Mathew Sinclair has been added to the squad for the ODI series against South Africa following the injury to opener Craig Cumming. Cumming needed surgery on a fractured cheekbone after he was struck by a Dale Steyn short ball in New Zealand’s first innings. He was unable to play in the second innings as New Zealand crashed to an innings and 59 run defeat.
