New Delhi: Blamed and arrested after the ISL final last year for allegedly assaulting the co-owner of FC Goa, Brazilian star Elano Blumer is unlikely to return to play the tournament again.
"Elano is disappointed with the way he was treated after winning the ISL final for Chennaiyin FC in Goa. He was arrested on false charges and was detained at the police station till early in the morning. He has almost made up his mind not to play in the tournament again," a source in the ISL said.
A 2010 World Cupper for Brazil, Elano had been the key player for the Chennai-based franchise for two seasons. He was the team's marquee player in the inaugural ISL and was appointed the captain in the next season.
The source also indicated that though the Brazilian had kept quiet ever since he returned home after the shocking incident post the ISL final, he was keeping a close watch on the development back in India.
"Elano is maintaining silence because he wants to know about the outcome of the police complaint filed against him after the final. In case he receives a fresh summon from the Goa police, then he might move FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers) to seek justice. The FIFPro, in turn could take the matter to Fifa," said the source.
