Calcutta: East Bengal defeated Mohun Bagan by a Mehtab Singh goal in the return-leg Under-18 I-League Derby at the East Bengal ground on Tuesday. The victory put both the teams on 10 points each after five matches in the zonal leg.

Mehtab, whose goal was disallowed in the first-leg encounter which ended 1-1, struck in the 86th minute with a header following a corner from Prakash Sarkar.

After an evenly contested first-half during which both teams failed to make much headway, the home team showed more intent with better wing play in the second session. Till East Bengal struck the winner, Mohun Bagan had impressed with solid defending inside the striking zone.

Mohun Bagan equalised soon after but the goal was disallowed because of off-side.

More than a few thousand supporters from either side turned up at the ground to cheer the players. While the first-leg Derby was marred by crowd trouble, Tuesday's match ended peacefully though there were reports of unrest near Eden Gardens after the match.

"I am very happy to have scored the winner. In the first-leg, I was disappointed to see my goal being disallowed... My dream is to play for the senior team one day," Mehtab, who hails from Punjab and is a huge fan of Arnab Mondal, said.

East Bengal coach Sujit Chakraborty praised Mehtab's efforts.

"He has the potential to play for the senior team."
