Cape Town: South Africa secured their 13th successive victory at home, beating Sri Lanka by 40 runs in the fourth one-dayer at the Newlands on Tuesday to go 4-0 up in the five-match series.
In reply to South Africa's 367 for five after Faf du Plessis hit a career-best 185, Sri Lanka made a proper fist of the run chase. Openers Upul Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella gave the visitors a rollicking start, with stand-in captain Tharanga going on to hammer a 73-ball hundred - his 14th in ODIs.
But the lower middle order simply fell away at the death as Sri Lanka lost their last six wickets in just 28 balls to be dismissed for 327.
Earlier, Du Plessis hit his second century of the series as Sri Lanka's struggling cricketers found themselves on the end of another battering. Du Plessis hit 185, only three short of the South African record, as the Proteas piled up 367 for five.
South Africa took full advantage of good batting conditions. Du Plessis made his runs off 141 balls and hit 16 fours and three sixes.
