Calcutta/Agartala: Dipa Karmakar's coach, Bishweshwar Nandi, has said that the gymnast is desperate to seal a berth at next year's Rio Olympics at the ongoing World Gymnastics Championships, in Glasgow, Scotland.
Dipa, who hails from Tripura, created history when she became the first Indian gymnast to qualify for the finals of an event at the world championships. The 22-year-old scored a total of 14.900 points in the women's Vault qualification and made it to the final round in the seventh position.
Speaking about Dipa, Nandi said: Dipa is determined to secure at least the third position for the Olympic selection, otherwise her participation in the Rio Games will have to be decided by the Indian Olympic Association."
The Vault finals will be held on Saturday.
