Calcutta: The rain on Thursday did not only hamper the schedule of the PGTI Players' Championship, it also gave 15-year-old Devansh Chadha reason to worry about.

Playing his first pro event, the Class X student of La Martiniere for Boys, had a score of 20-over on the 14th hole when it started pouring. Day II's action has spilled onto the final day, and therein lies Chadha's plight. He has no chance to make the cut, but will have to turn up at the Tolly early on Friday morning to complete those four holes.

"I haven't been to school since the Pujas. It has been non-stop golf and now this rain has spoiled my plans of attending school on Friday," Chadha, whose home club is RCGC, said. Surely it will be a race against time for him. The school starts at 8 in the morning and Chadha may just make it in time. "I could be 10 minutes late," he said.

Chadha did not know much about the tournament rules. So he walked straight up to the tournament director, Sampath Chari, pleading him to make a concession.

Chari said rules cannot be changed and he has to come back on Friday morning, complete four rounds and sign the card. "After that you can go to school," Chari told him indulgently.

The amateur has been doing the balancing act between the fairways and textbooks ever since his dad Narinder Chadha gave him the club.

"Attendance is a problem, but my school is giving me a lot of support," the Jordan Spieth fan informed.

And about his not-so-impressive first pro event, the youngster said: "I was very nervous. But I learnt a lot in these two days. I will try to put those things to good use when I go back to the junior circuit," he said.
