Having made a white-ball comeback after a year, in the Asia Cup, Lasith Malinga is keen on continuing to play for Sri Lanka.

“The body has taken it well and, if you ask me, I’d like to play more. However, that is the selectors’ call and not my prerogative,” Malinga told The Telegraph in a brief interaction during breakfast at the InterContinental on Wednesday.

Thirtyfive-year-old Malinga’s comeback match, against Bangladesh, saw awesome figures of 10-2-23-4. Versus Afghanistan, however, he disappointed — 10-0-66-1.

Malinga and the rest of the Sri Lanka squad left for the airport shortly afterwards. Defeats at the hands of Bangladesh and Afghanistan knocked Angelo Mathews’s men out of the tournament.

“It can happen in sport and it did happen to us,” Malinga said when asked to comment on Sri Lanka’s first-round exit.
