Club golf meet tees off today

Calcutta: Over 450 golfers from three premier city clubs will be in action at the McDowell’s Signature Club championship, to tee off at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club Saturday. It is India’s only championship for clubs.

The two-day East Zone leg will see the Service Officers’ Institute, Tollygunge Club and the hosts in action. The zonal winners will get a berth in the all-India finals to be held in Mumbai from November 9.

At a press conference Friday, Arujuna awardee and eminent golfer Nonita Lal Qureshi said the teams would have two best golfers from the open category and four from the handicap category.

Mukesh extends lead

Mukesh Kumar opened up a ten-stroke lead after the penultimate round of the WWICS Forest Hill Open in Chandigarh Friday. According to information recieved here, Mukesh returned four-under 68 for an aggregate of 10-under 206. Ashok Kumar also shot a 68 and jumped up to tied second place at even-par 216 along with Amritinder Singh.
