It is going to be a clash of titans in the 2,400m Indian Turf Invitation Cup, the showpiece-event at the Chennai races on Sunday.

Trainer Malesh Narredu's champion, Quasar (Yash Narredu-up), Robert Foley's charge Be Safe (P. Chauhan) and the S. Padmanabhan's prized colt Desert God (D. Allan) stand way ahead of their rivals in the 13-horse field.

Be Safe, gives the impression that the five-year-old is back to his brilliant form that won him the Indian Derby, from Quasar, the way he liked. Quasar, on the other hand, swept every major event, including the last edition of the Invitation Cup, in which Be Safe, had literally broken down.

Quasar, presently boasts of being the highest ever stakemoney winner in the country, but on a decline. However, four-year-old horses have been ruling the roost since the year 2012 when the format of the race was changed to a weight for age event. The Classic crop now gets 4kg weight advantage over the champions of the past and it becomes difficult for them to assert their supremacy, over the younger lot.

Therefore, Desert God is the one who may take some beating in the race while Be Safe and Quasar may follow the young horse home.
