Uncertainty looms over the CFL Premier Division A’s last match, to be played between East Bengal and Calcutta Customs. The match was abandoned on Sunday after the East Bengal ground was deemed unfit due to waterlogging.

“We are trying to schedule the match either on Wednesday or Thursday at the Kalyani Stadium. But we are yet to get police clearance,” IFA secretary Joydeep Mukherjee said on Monday.

Peerless SC are on the pole position with 23 points from 11 matches. East Bengal have 20 points from 10 matches and need to win the last match by a seven-goal margin.

“We didn’t receive any information about the match from IFA. The contracts with our foreign players ended on Monday. We are not sure whether we would ask them to stay for a week more. Let us first get the schedule, then we will take a call,” Calcutta Customs technical director Biswajit Bhattacharya said.

There is no rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday in Nadia. That means if the IFA gets the permission and both clubs agree to play, the league will be decided before the Durga Puja.
