Calcutta, Aug. 29 :
The Bengal Hockey Association (BHA), on Dhyan Chand?s 95th birth anniversary today, announced it will bear 50 per cent of the cost for youngsters wishing to practise on the astro-turf at the SAI complex under the latter?s pay-and-play scheme. At its annual prize distribution ceremony, BHA secretary Gurbux Singh also promised an accident insurance scheme of Rs 25,000 for each umpire.
Under-14 players Sujit Mondal (Paikpara SCC) and Santosh Rajbhar (Behala SA) were awarded monthly scholarships of Rs 1,500 each for a year. Subham Adhikary (Behala SA) will get Rs 500 per month. The trio was also presented with hockey sticks. CPT?s Iqbal Singh, at present doing national duty in Poznan, Poland, was adjudged Best Player.
The Bengal squad which finished third in the junior national championship was felicitated.

Khalsa HCC lift Dhyan Chand title
Khalsa Hockey Coaching Camp won the first Dhyan Chand memorial meet, beating Biswalakshmi SCC, Baruipur, 2-1 in the tie-breaker today. Pratap Singh and Gurdeep Singh scored for the winners, while Tanmoy Das scored for the Baruipur boys.
