Calcutta: Mohun Bagan, on Thursday, parted ways with technical director Subhas Bhowmick with “immediate effect”.

That Bhowmick’s future at Bagan was uncertain was a known fact since he doesn’t have an AFC ‘A’ licence coaching degree, which is mandatory for a coach in a professional set-up. And that’s exactly the reason that has been cited by the club for his removal.

“The decision was taken in the wake of the regulation circulated by AIFF during the I-League committee meeting, that from the ensuing season the technical director should have an AFC ‘A’ licence, and if the same is not there, he will not be able to sit in the reserve bench and also cannot conduct training of the team,” Bagan said in a media release.

Anjan Mitra, the club’s general secretary, said that they would be appointing a coach soon.

“We are considering a couple of names and a decision will be taken in a few days,” Mitra said.

Former United SC coach Dutchman Eelco Schattorie is the frontrunner for the job, if the sources are to be believed. Former East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan, who is currently associated with ISL side Kerala Blasters, was also in the fray initially.

Sanjoy Sen, who has coached United SC and Mohammedan Sporting in the past, may be tagged along with Schattorie, club sources claimed.
