Calcutta: As their battle against relegation intensifies, Mohammedan Sporting have been struck by a second players’ revolt this season.
Coach Jamshed Nassiri wanted the 19 players, who had assembled at the club ground on Monday morning, to work out but all of them refused saying their dues have not been cleared.
According to football secretary Isthiaq Ahmed, a rebel group is provoking the players. “The players are becoming pawns,” he said.
“About 90-95 per cent of the dues of players like Madhab Das, Satish Bharti, Dipendu Biswas and Rahim Nabi have been cleared… The remaining part will be cleared after the National League,” the official said. “I have personally requested Nabi and Dipendu… I hope the boys will practise tomorrow.”
He sounded extremely cut up with captain Hussain Mustafi. “He has been talking of some injury and avoiding practice for quite some time now… We’ll initiate strong action against him.”
Mohammedan Sporting take on Mahindra United on Wednesday.
