Calcutta: The IPL governing council is mulling Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as alternative venues if Lok Sabha elections clash with the dates of IPL-VII. The council, headed by chairman Ranjib Biswal, met in Mumbai on Sunday where this possibility was discussed informally.

A final decision could be taken at the next meeting, which is likely to take place after the franchises’ workshop in Singapore on November 28 and 29. The next auction date, too, will be finalised at the meeting.

“In Sunday’s meeting, last year’s accounts along with TV ratings were discussed and compared with that of the previous editions of the tournament,” said an official.

“But before slotting the matches in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the infrastructure in both these countries will also be looked into.”

Besides, there might be a reduction of matches that begin at 4pm. While advertisers feel early matches adversely affect the TRP, the rising temperatures during April and May also take a toll on the players.
