Calcutta: Thirty-two colleges will take part in the Elliot Challenge Shield football tournament organised by the Indian Football Association (IFA) which will start from Tuesday.
The IFA has roped in Coca-Cola, who will be the title sponsors for this edition. The matches will be played on a knock-out basis at four venues — Mohammedan Sporting ground, Barasat Stadium, Khardah Stadium and Makardah Stadium.
“The prize money this time has been increased considerably.
The winners will be getting Rs 75,000, while the runners-up will be richer by Rs 50,000.
The losing semi-finalists will be getting Rs 10,000 each,” said IFA general secretary Utpal Ganguli.
It has been also learnt that best player of each match will be receiving a cash award of Rs 1,000 while the highest scorer, player-of-the-tournament and fair play trophy winners will be getting Rs 5,000 each.
Meanwhile, the IFA is planning to organise the final of the tournament at the Mohun Bagan ground.
