Calcutta, March 21 :     For the Sri Lankans, the ongoing tournament with Pakistan and hosts India will be their last real taste of competitive cricket before they defend their World Cup title. While lifting the tri-series crown remains a big goal for his team, skipper Arjuna Ranatunga said it was not as important as using the meet as preparation for the big event in England. ?That?s priority No.1 for us,? he said after nets at the CCFC this morning. ?Only then comes the business of winning this tournament. It doesn?t mean we?re taking it lightly, only that we may try out a few things (during this meet) with the World Cup in mind.? Manager Ranjith Fernando also stressed on the preparation bit. ?It?s exposure, especially for the younger lot, that we are looking at even as we take notes with the World Cup in mind,? he said. The Lankans, who take on India in Nagpur tomorrow, preferred to practice here and flew out only in the afternoon. ?We were disappointed we missed out on practice yesterday, but facilities here (at the CCFC) are excellent,? Ranatunga said. Marvan Atapattu, who had his right forefinger crushed by a Shoaib Akhtar lifter in Jamshedpur on Friday, took things easy today. ?We?re unlikely to field him tomorrow,? said Ranatunga. The skipper said he was quite conscious of the dip in collective form in the Lankan ranks, but he said it would be alright if the players peaked in time for the big English summer. As part of their preparation for the World Cup, the Lankans will be playing a series of matches against Leicestershire who, Ranatunga informed, have already landed in their country. ?We?ll be reaching England around April 24. That gives us 20 days before our first match (on May 14 against the hosts),? said Ranatunga. Fernando informed that Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralidharan, both coming out of long injury lay-offs, had begun net practice back home and should be ready for the Leicester ties.
