The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has renewed the contract of VVS Laxman — batting consultant for its project, Vision Programme (earlier known as Vision 2020), for another two years.

The decision to renew Laxman’s contract was taken last month.

“VVS’s contract has been renewed till 2021 end,” said CAB secretary Avishek Dalmiya on Tuesday.

The CAB will also conduct a review of its player development project. A decision on whether to appoint a new bowling consultant will be taken after the special general meeting.

“Once the SGM, which is slated to be held towards the end of this month, gets over, we’ll decide how we need to proceed and then finalise the other issues. A kind of review will also be done, as every aspect needs to be looked into.

“At the moment, though, it’s too early to take a call on the bowling consultant,” said another CAB official.

Meanwhile, the decision to rename Vision 2020 to Vision Programme was taken during December end. “We are now calling it Vision Programme.

“When we renewed Laxman’s contract towards the end of last month, we mentioned it as Vision Programme…. 2020 has already arrived, so we had to change it,” the official added.

The Vision project, a brainchild of Sourav Ganguly, came into being in early 2014.
