Well, the latest kid on the block does not count heartbeats or the number of steps taken; instead it uses the concept of classical conditioning - studied by Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov - to rid you of bad habits.

Smart watches are increasingly becoming popular as a fashion statement and fitness tracker. And with the steady rise in demand, it is only fair that these watches not just track your day-to-day life but provide a few extra benefits. Well, the latest kid on the block does not count heartbeats or the number of steps taken; instead it uses the concept of classical conditioning - studied by Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov - to rid you of bad habits.

If you are tired of diets and food trackers, or the patch and gum to help you quit smoking, Pavlok is here to help. This smartwatch can give you a push to give up unhealthy habits by changing your brain's relationship with them. It you follow instructions meticulously, Pavlok will condition you to dislike your bad habits - be it smoking, overeating, procrastinating, nail biting or waking up late.

Available on Amazon at a discounted rate, Pavlok Gen 2 is an improvement over its first generation watch with the same name. It is an aversion therapy device that comes with Bluetooth connectivity and motion sensors that "learn" from your actions as well as zap, beep or vibration functions. All so you can not only break bad habits but also start building good ones, like training your body to wake up early and sticking to the task at hand. Pavlok integrates with sensors, friends, Internet browsers, phone apps, GPS and more to keep you on track.

Download the Pavlok app on your phone. Go into the Pavlok Remote and pair your wristband. Once connected, you can control the intensity of the zap you give yourself. The recommended intensity is 30 per cent (it is not painful). Thereafter, whenever you engage in the bad habit, press the lightning bolt button on your Pavlok wristband. This administers a zap - a light electric shock - to you, which begins to build an aversion to the thing that led to the shock. Keep it up and, in a very short time, you can break the cycle of bad habit.

Why would you zap yourself ? First, because you have invested a good amount to do it and second, because it is going to help you get rid of bad habits. Unfortunately, most people stop zapping themselves after a while - this is a major flaw.

There are some other issues too. The app updates can be a little problematic and the battery dies real quick. Sometimes, the wristband refuses to pair with your phone.
