Jajpur, May 26: A youth was arrested today for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in Kaliapani, the chromites valley town in the district.

The accused, identified as Budha Mohanta alias Butu (25), works as a driver in a public sector company of the chromites valley. The accused happens to be a distant relative of the victim’s family, police said.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s father with the Kaliapani police, Butu had come to their house at Gurujanga in his Bolero vehicle. When the couple were arranging food for Butu, he took their daughter outside on the pretext of showing the vehicle.

The victim’s father alleged that the accused sexually abused the girl and fled from the scene, leaving her in a pool of blood.“He came to our home yesterday afternoon and asked us for some eatables. While we were preparing food for him, he took our daughter ouside. We thought that both were going to see the vehicle,” said the girl’s father.

“Later, to our surprise, we found she was lying outside in a pool of blood,” the victim’s father added.The girl’s parents and the neighbours rushed her to community health centre (CHC) at Sukinda. Later, the minor was shifted to S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital after her condition deteriorated last night. Following the complaint, the police swung into action and arrested the accused. The girl is undergoing treatment.
