Angul, Oct. 8: Two contractual workers died after being electrocuted at the construction site of Jindal Steel and Power Limited’s steel plant today.
The deceased were identified as Chandramani Hembrum and Mishra Budra. Another worker, Bijay Hembrum, who was injured in the mishap, is undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital here.
His condition is stable, a hospital source said.
All the three workers hail from Sundergarh.
An eyewitness said the workers had come in contact with water in a pit near the site. The water was electrically charged.
Chandramani and Mishra died on the spot while Bijay was injured. All three were rushed to district headquarters hospital.
“We received the bodies of the deceased and informed police. Bijay Hemrum’s condition is now stable,” said additional district medical officer R.N. Dash.
The police registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation.
“We are investigating the incident and waiting for the post-mortem report,” said inspector in charge of Nisha police station S. Muduli.
A company official said: “The accident took place at the construction site. The deceased and the injured worker worked under a sub-contractor. We will abide by the provisions under law with regard to compensation and rehabilitation.”
Company sources said an official team had been sent to ascertain the cause of the mishap and suggest measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Jindal Steel and Power Limited is setting up a six million tonne integrated steel plant here.
