Berhampur: Residents of Kalu Patra Sahi here are observing "black day" to protest against non-inclusion of their area in the ward delimitation process that began on Thursday.

"Kalu Patra Sahi, which consists of about 200 families, was part of ward No. 7 when the Berhampur Municipal Corporation had 40 wards. But things have changed completely with the total number of wards increasing to 43 following the delimitation process. Kalu Patra Sahi is 200-years-old, but its name does not figure in the list," said president of Maa Jwalamukhi Yuvak Sangha Tarini Sahu. He led 1,800 residents of Kalu Patra Sahi to observe black day. He said the protest would continue till the name of Kalu Patra Sahi was included in the ward list.

The residents of the area's 200 households tied black ribbons in front of their houses as a protest mark.

The councillor of ward No. 7 and BJD leader Rajesh Sahu said he had protested the non-inclusion of Kalu Patra Sahi in the delimitation process at the council meeting on February 19.

"I have also brought it to the notice of the MLA Berhampur and the municipal commissioner," Sahu said. The corporation must look into it for proper amendment for the interest of the public, he said.

I will look into it, said municipal commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore.

President of the Sangha said there was a mention of Maa Bhagabati Sahi in ward No. 3.

"Maa Bhagabati Sahi is a new name and it was not in the old list of wards. We are have the Radha Krushna temple Bhagabata Pitha at Kalu Patra Sahi and are not aware whether the area's name has been changed to Maa Bhagabati Sahi in the delimitation process," said Tarini Sahu.
