Classical touch
Violin maestro Mysore Manjunath and his team performed at the SAI International School on Tuesday as part of a Spic Macay programme. Manjunath was accompanied by his son, violinist Sumanth Manjunath, mridanga player Phagun and ghatam player M. Surya Prasad Rao. The father-son duo mesmerised the students, teachers and others with their unique style of violin playing, which is a blend of emotive appeal, technical mastery and intellectual sophistication with a strict adherence to the classicism.
Students honoured
The Nimapara-Gop Naba Nirman Parishad honoured 45 students, who have recently secured A-1 grade in this year's matriculation examination. The students were honoured with citations and cash prizes. Parishad president Dillip Nayak also declared to assist poor students for their future studies.
Foundation day
The 12th foundation day of KIIT International School was celebrated in its compound. Speaking on the occasion, school chairperson Mona Lisa Bal emphasised on the need to weave a strong sense of values in young people to help them manage with the pressures of the time. Principal Sanjay Suar shared the uniqueness of the school and also etched out the aspirations and goals in the years to come, recognising the role of the team in the growth of an institution.
Green oath
Students of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, under the guidance of their teachers enacted a play named Chipko Movement, and took out a rally on the streets of Pokhariput to spread the message of saving trees to save environment. The Hindi word ' chipko' means "to cling to" and also reflects the demonstrators' primary formulae of embracing the trees to drive the loggers away. The children also planted saplings on their school premises and took a green oath.
Prize for achievers
The DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur organised a felicitation programme for its achievers. Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania, who was the chief guest of the occasion, cited many examples from his student days and advised the students to be extra careful to face the upcoming challenges of the present time, where both opportunities and challenges come simultaneously. Principal K.C. Satapathy highlighted the students' achievements in the last academic session. Khurania felicitated CBSE Class X topper Sthiti Prajna Sahoo, and Class XII toppers A.B. Satyaprakash, Somnath Jena, B.N. Shreevishesa and Raghav Tekariwal. More than 300 students, who had scored more than 90 per cent and above marks, were also felicitated with memento, citation and cash prizes.
Protect environment
The Van Mahotsav Week has been observed at the Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School from July 7. During the week, various awareness programmes for plantation such as poetry recitation, debate, elocution, play and slogan writing were held. Students and teachers planted saplings to observe the week and took pledge to protect environment and save trees.
