Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths are trying to ascertain whether an SCB professor had received undue favours from any pharmaceutical company to fund his frequent foreign trips.
The anti-corruption wing has been probing the allegations against Dr Rabindra Kuman Jena, head of clinical haematology.
Allegations against him included misconduct, corruption and possession of disproportionate assets. The residential and official premises of Dr Jena were all raided on Wednesday.
During scrutiny, it was found that Dr Jena had undertaken 12 trips to various places in Europe, USA and southeast Asia between 2005 and 2015 "at his own expenses".
"Whether Dr Jena had actually undertaken such visits is under verification. The passport and immigration authorities are being contacted to find out the details of foreign tours undertaken by him," an official said.
It was also found that he had postal deposits in form of monthly income scheme, recurring deposits and savings bank deposits at the medical college campus post office amounting to Rs 14,54,541 in his name and that of his family members.
"The deposits have been verified and confirmed by the postal authorities," the official said.
During inquiry, it was found that Dr Jena had made construction on over 1934sqft up to plinth level on a BDA plot, self-financing commercial complex, in Bhuba-neswar. The approximate cost of the construction has been assessed to be Rs 8,25,000.
During the search, gold and diamond-studded gold jewellery weighing more than 400 grams, approximately worth Rs 12,00,000 were found from an UCO bank locker, which Dr Jena maintained in a joint account with his wife.
