Bhubaneswar, May 27: Union urban development and parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu today desisted from commenting on the Naveen Patnaik government's performance in the state.

"I won't rate or date," quipped Naidu, on being asked whether he was satisfied with the BJD government's performance in the state.

Naidu, who was in the city to highlight the Modi government's achievements on completion of its one year in office, dismissed the Congress allegations that the BJP had entered into a secret deal with the BJD. "We don't have any secret deal with anybody. We only want to serve the interest of the people of Odisha," he said.

On the allegation that the BJD was going soft on the Modi government at the Centre in view of the ongoing CBI investigations into the deposit collection scam, the minister said: "The CBI is an independent agency. We don't have any intention to rein in CBI."

He, however, appealed to the BJD to support the land acquisition bill in the Parliament. "In your state, you also need land for infrastructure development, including ports."

Stating that he visualised a good future for Odisha under the Modi government, Naidu refuted the allegations that the state would get less financial assistance following the recommendation of 14th Finance Commission. "I can assure the people of Odisha that the state would not get less than what they were getting earlier," he said.

The minister urged political parties not to fall prey to the Congress's tactics of obstructing the Parliament's functioning. "I can't force you to support me or the BJP. But the non-Congress parties, including the BJD in Odisha, should understand its game plan and avoid becoming a victim of the Congress tactics," he said.

Accusing the Congress of indulging in misinformation campaign and misleading the people about the land acquisition bill, Naidu said the BJP leaders were discussing with the non-Congress parties to remove the misgivings.

"While the Congress-led UPA government had acquired about two lakh acres for private purpose, the NDA government has not acquired a single inch of land in favour of private parties in the past one year," he said.

The bill has been a contentious issue since the day it was introduced in the Parliament. While the Congress has been accusing the NDA of having unnecessarily tampered with the bill earlier brought by the UPA, parties such as the BJD, too, have reservations to the proposed legislation.

The BJD has suggested amendments to it.
