Angul: Local people, angered over two accidental deaths, blocked the National Highway No. 55 since Thursday evening, demanding compensation to the kin of the victims.

They also torched the sand-laden truck which crushed a scooty resulting in the two deaths. The deceased were identified as Roki Dehuri, 24, of Poksunga villages and Tapas Sahu of Karatata village, said Angul sub-divisional police officer H. Pani.

Police said two youths were going on scooty from Angul towards their village. As soon as they reached Musapapuli Chhak, 5km from here, a truck coming from the opposite side crushed them killing the duo on the spot.

Piqued over the deaths, the local villagers torched the truck, while the driver fled the spot. They immediately resorted to roadblock on the highway, causing hundreds of vehicles stranded on the both sides of the road.
