Cuttack/Bhubaneswar, Nov. 15: An unrestricted flow of recordings of indecent contents featuring college girls with their ‘lovers’ has been making rounds in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
Interestingly, nowadays the CDs do not feature foreign porn stars, but are locally produced and supplied in large numbers.
Last week, the circulation of recordings of indecent contents featuring a college student in Cuttack and an autorickshaw driver through MMS came to the fore after a complaint had been lodged.
In August 2008, a 22-year-old student in Khannagar area of Cuttack committed suicide after circulation of a CD containing recordings of indecent contents featuring her in market. Police subsequently busted a pornography film-making racket with the arrest of a student of an engineering college.
In April 2010, investigating on a complaint police busted another pornography film-making racket with the arrest of a 32-year-old transporter living in Bidanasi area of Cuttack and seizure of a porn CD involving him and the girl of the same locality.
“It’s now emerging as a societal menace and the cases that are coming to the fore are only the tip of the iceberg. But the role of police comes in only after a case comes to light or a complaint is lodged,” said Amitendra Nath Sinha, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Cuttack.
In all the three cases, the contents were apparently captured without the knowledge of the girl. However, police had found prima facie evidence that the contents were shot keeping the male in the loop, possibly for financial gain from the porn film trade.
“It needs to be dealt by a special squad. Moreover, as it apparently involves inducement to sex by assurance and breach of trust, those found involved should be subjected to exemplary punishment. Fear of more years in jail and more quantum of fine could possibly check the crime to some extent,” said advocate Prasanna Nanda.
“It’s symptomatic of social decadence and erosion of moral values. There is urgent need for developing consciousness and moral values among the youth through education and parental guidance,” said Smarapriya Mishra, registrar of Ravenshaw University.
In May, police busted a major sex racket with the arrest of two kingpins and eight call girls at Nandan Vihar in Bhubaneswar. Three out of the 11 ‘customers’, present at the scene, were engineering students.
Three persons, including a woman, possessing sexually explicit materials and a revolver, were arrested in July at the Bhubaneswar Railway station.
In September, acting on a tip-off, police rescued 24 minor girls from an orphanage-cum-remand home run by a Chandrashekharpur-based NGO. CDs containing pornographic material, a computer, video cameras and electronic gadgets were also seized.
“As and when we get information about blue film CDs, we carry out raids and have busted many rackets,” said Himansu Lal, Bhubaneswar DCP.
