Bhubaneswar, July 28: Satirtha Parivar, which promotes literary works of Ganeswar Mishra, today announced a modern translation academy in the state on his first death anniversary.

Sandeep Mishra, the trust's founding member, said they would seek suggestions from writers and set up the academy using their feedback. "We will translate, among others, Odia short stories and novels into the English and vice-versa," Mishra said.

The trust will also felicitate one personality from the field of translation every year. Writers of all ages gathered here to pay tribute to Mishra, who had served as the president of Odisha Sahitya Akademi.

Writer Sitakant Mohapatra said: "Mishra carved a niche for himself in translation works. His works continue to inspire people."

Writer Dash Benhur shared stories on how Mishra had translated the works of Gopinath Mohanty, one of Odisha's greatest writers.

Odisha Sahitya Akademi president Harihar Mishra and writers Bikram Keshari Das and Jatindra Kumar Nayak also spoke on the occasion.

Former chief information commissioner and writer Tarunkanti Mishra wrote on Facebook: "Prof. Mishra is a writer of different genre. He is unique in his style, treatment of themes, presentation of characters."

Prasanga: Ganeswar Mishra, a book on the late writer, was also released on the occasion.
