Bhubaneswar, Oct. 4: Along with enjoying the usual festivities, it’s time for a special treat for Oriya film lovers, who can have the pleasure of watching their favourite Oriya film stars battle it out for the numero uno position at the box office.

Four big-budget Oriya films that have hit the theatres this festive season star some of Oriya film industry’s top-notch actors — Anubhav Mohanty, Barsha Priyadarshini, Sabyasachi, Priya Choudhury, Babushan and Arindam.

Packed with all the ingredients of hit flicks — drama, action, comedy and romance — all the four movies are expecting to hit sixers at the box-office.

Dosti starring Sabyaschi, Babushan and Pintu Nanda released on September 30. Both Sabyasachi and Babushan have a good box office record and the duo have come together for the first time. This is expected to create a double impact. Set against a village backdrop, the film is the story of three friends, who initially cannot stand the sight of one another. Circumstances bring them closer. However, as lady love enters their lives, cracks develop in their friendship. Do the three friends reunite or do they go their separate ways? That’s for you to find out. Priya and Megha Ghosh are the other attractions in the film. Produced by Bijay Kandoi, the film is directed by Ashok Pati.

“It is a comedy film in the first phase and then explores friendship and relationships in the second phase. The film has been shot beautifully. We had great fun shooting for the film. I am very confident that Dosti will do good business. It was a pleasure working with Babushan and Pintu Nanda,” said Sabyasachi.

Sabyasachi, Megha and Priya have come up with yet another romantic comedy in Anam Charan Sahoo’s Chandni I Miss You this festive season. This film has been directed by Basant Sahoo.

Balunga Toka – Humse Panga Nahin, which has been produced under the banner of Oscar films, stars Anubhav and Barsha. The film is largely banking on the popularity of the pair. This blend of family drama-comedy showcases Anubhav in a never-seen-before avatar.

Director Sudhakar Basant tells the story of several struggles faced by an illiterate boy played by Anubhav.

“Both Anubhav and Barsha have worked very hard for the film. The audience will get to see Anubhav in a new look. Overall, it’s a fun and entertaining film,” said director Sudhakar Basant.

Arindam and Riya starrer Criminal-The Real Hero is yet another release for Dussehra. The film is about a boy who becomes a criminal in his family’s eyes while trying to reform the society. This action film is directed by S. Dileep Panda. Arindam, who is now known as Rishi in the film circles, could attract action lovers with some daring stunts in the film.

Movie theatres look forward to the Dussehra-Diwali-New Year period to cash in on profits with numerous fresh releases.

“Dussehra is a very good time to release a film. Every year the distributors and the producers earn around Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh during this brief period. So far Balunga Toka is doing very good business,” said manager of S-cine complex, Rabindra Kumar Sahoo.
