Rourkela, Nov. 11: The Tangarpalli block development officer has filed a police complaint against the BJD's Sundargarh MLA Jogesh Singh.

Soumendra K. Das, the officer, alleged that Singh had misbehaved with him and threatened with dire consequences over phone.

The incident took place close on the heels of the controversy involving the BJD's Begunia MLA, who was accused of assaulting the local tehsildar.

Last evening, Das lodged the complaint with Lefripara police immediately after the alleged incident had taken place. The BDO mentioned in his complaint that he was abused and threatened. He said: "I received a phone call from the MLA, and he abused me and also threatened me with dire consequences."

The MLA had allegedly asked Das to show favour to his party cadres in the Gopabandhu Grameen Yojana.

"However, I expressed my inability and politely told him that it was not possible. But, he did not listen and kept on abusing me," said Das, adding that he had informed the district collector, police superintendent and the Integrated Tribal Development Agency's project director about the incident.

Besides, the Odisha Administrative Service Association has also taken up the issue. "My association office-bearers will meet the chief minister and apprise him of this," said Das.

Singh, however, dismissed the allegation as baseless and figment of imagination. "I never misbehaved with him, neither did I threaten him. Rather he is trying to malign me in a fake case," he said.

On the other hand, the MLA said he had called a meeting with some of the staff members of BDO's office and was doing a review of the works in the block as he had some information regarding low quality work.

"Then I rang him up and told him to maintain the quality of work and never asked him to favour my party cadres," said Singh.

"But, I found that the officer was not behaving properly on the other side of the phone. So, I asked him whether he knew how to talk to a public representative. But, he did not bother or care about the status," he said.

The MLA said: "I am going to raise the issue at the protocol committee of the Assembly, and if necessary, file a defamation suit against the BDO in court."
