Bhubaneswar, Aug. 19: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped twice before being rescued by social activists from Mali Sahi.

A native of Puri, the girl alleged that five persons raped her while she was working in a milk factory in Hyderabad.

The matter came to light after she lodged a complaint with the Mahila police station. She was sent for medical examination. “A case of gang-rape has been registered and we are looking for the culprits,” said inspector in charge of Mahila police station Sujata Panda.

The girl told the police that after her father’s death, she was staying with her cousin. “Two months ago, a youth from my village took me to Hyderabad and I started working in a milk factory. Five persons there raped me. I somehow managed to escape and reached Bhubaneswar railway station three days ago,” she said.

The misery of the girl did not end because another youth took her to a nearby slum and raped her again with two of his associates. “As I was alone, the youth took me to his house in the Buddhanagar slum on the pretext of helping me but when I reached his house I found two other persons there. They all raped me,” she said.

Afterwards, the youths dumped the girl at an abandoned place in the area. Later, a woman from the slum brought her to Mali Sahi where some social activists rescued her.

“The girl said that she had been abused physically and sexually while working in the milk factory. Her body bears many injury marks and the trauma has robbed her of the ability to speak normally,” said Abharani Choudhury, an activist.
