Cuttack, April 13: Orissa High Court today turned down the demand of teachers of different government colleges and universities in the state for pushing back the retirement age to 65 years.
A bunch of petitions were filed by teachers in this regard on the ground that the University Grants Commission (UGC) had already enhanced the age limit.
The petitioners had sought direction to the state government for implementation of the UGC recommendations of 2010 on fixing the retirement age of teachers professors at 65 years instead of the present 60.
“Rejecting the petitions, the two-judge bench of Justice L. Mohapatra and Justice B.K. Patel ruled that the state government is not bound to implement the UGC recommendation,” said J.K.Lenka, a petitioner’s counsel.
“The Court left it to the State government to take a decision on the question of revising the age of retirement”, Lenka said.
