Berhampur, Jan. 7: The Orissa Medical Teachers Association (OMTA) has demanded that the suspension order of associate professor Dr Siba Prasad Das of the surgery department in MKCG Medical College and Hospital here be revoked immediately and threatened to intensify their agitation if their demand was not met.
“We will not take classes and resort to token cease work from Monday. Gradually, we will resort to total cease work and close the outdoor and emergency services,” Dr Suchitra Panigrahi, assistant secretary of OMTA Berhampur branch, said today.
A delegation from the OMTA would also submit a memorandum addressed to the CM through the Ganjam district collector and would meet people’s representatives including the MLA and MP, Dr Panigrahi said. “We have asked for support from the Junior Doctors Association and the Medical College Students Union,” she said. Associate professor Dr Siba Prasad Das was suspended after stray dogs mauled the body of a farmer from Mahanadpur, which was lying on the veranda of the surgery ward of MKCG Medical College and Hospital on December 18.
“The suspension order has hurt our self respect. The associate professor has been suspended even though he has no fault. We have no objection to further inquiry. But the suspension order must be revoked first,” said an OMTA leader.
Professor Rasananda Mangual, head of the surgery department, said that there had been no negligence in the treatment protocol. T body was mauled because of the carelessness of the patient’s relatives, he said.
