With the temperature crossing 43 degrees Celsius on Friday, shops selling traditional drinks have become the favourite stops for commuters.

Among the traditional drinks, pana, pudina paani, lassi and many more are quenching the thirst of the commuters.

Made from juicy fruit pulps of mango or stone apple, curd, mashed bananas, grated coconut, pana is sold for Rs 5 to 10 per glass at kiosks that have mushroomed along the Janpath and Jayadev Vihar to Chandrasekharpur.

Pudina paani is also a hit with the people here. The mixture of mint leaves and jaljira is sold at Rs 5 per glass. These are stored in clay pots and therefore gives a natural cooling effect. People are also making a beeline for sugarcane juice.

The Odia twist to lassi has also become very popular. Mixed with khua and rabdi and garnished with cashews, almonds and coconut, this Odian twist has made many fans here. It comes at Rs 15 to 30 per glass.

Beverages apart, pakhal is also sold at small dhabas and even big restaurants.
