Bhubaneswar, Nov. 4: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today released an information booklet titled Aaina highlighting the achievements and schemes of his government ahead of panchayat polls due early next year.
"In democracy, awareness is most important," said Naveen while releasing the 48-page Odia booklet.
The preface to the booklet is titled " Jaanile jiniba" (We will win, if we know). The chief minister in his message said: "Bringing out the fruits of schemes to the beneficiaries is as much important as forming a scheme to meet the requirements of people."
Though the government justified the fresh publication of the booklet by saying that it was being brought out on the occasion of completion of 80th year of Odisha province and the centenary of former chief minister Biju Patnaik, opposition parties said that it was released keeping the panchayat elections, scheduled in February-March next year.
On November 1, The Telegraph had published a report - "Hoarding blitz in poll season" - which was about state government's decision to paint its success stories on billboards across the state.
The booklet highlights the populist measures of the government, which included a separate budget on agriculture and food security.
Official sources said copies of the booklet would be distributed free of cost to all gram panchayats and urban wards.
Opposition parties said all these campaigns were being carried out by the government keeping the panchayat polls in mind.
Congress spokesperson Sulochana Das said: "The chief minister has started campaign for his party spending from the state exchequer."
A senior BJD leader said their party was in full throttle to spread the message of success of its party government to the masses, while the opposition parties were occupied with infighting.
The BJD concluded its month-long Jan Sampark campaign on November 2. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has also made whirlwind tours to districts across the state and is on an inauguration spree.
Senior BJP leader Suresh Pujari said: "All the programmes and laying of the foundation stones for various projects are being organised with panchayat elections in mind."
