Master Canteen

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation owns three parking lotsin the area. However, these lots are exposedto irregular parking of vehicles in the absence of operators. “Traffic congestion is rampant here mainly due to the irregular parking of vehicles. They often park the cars close to the Master Canteen roundabout that hinders traffic flow,” said Monalish Sarangi, who runs a bookshop.

Irregular parking of vehicles is rampant in this crowded area. The municipal corporation operates two lots on both sides of the road here. “The road that leads to the market is about 40 meters wide, but due to illegal parking of vehicles, it gets narrower to almost half the width leaving very less room for vehicles to move. The pavements are also encroached on by the vendors and we are forced to walk on the road risking our life and limb,” said Shanti Lata Rath, a shopper.
Satya Nagar

It’s a popular place for commercial establishments, including cinemas and shopping malls. Visitors to these establishments use the on-street parking facility of the corporation. But randomly parked vehicles create problems for commuters. Here again, the civic body doesn’t engage any parking operators and drivers leave the vehicles in a haphazard manner creating chaos on the stretch. “Random parking makes the road more narrow,” said Pratik Moharana, a shopper.
Kharavela Nagar

This place houses establishments ranging from posh malls, jewellery showrooms and star hotels to mid-range shops, affordable hotels, hangout zones and eateries. The civic body here own two on-street parking lots but since they have not yet allotted to anyone. Unsystematic parking of vehicles is a major problem here. “The parking zone often gets full forcing other vehicles to park on the no-parking zones right on the road. Minor accidents often take place,” said Dinakar Subuddhi, who runs a medicine shop in the area.
