Bhubaneswar, May 30: Film, television, theatre and jatra actors came together for an award ceremony here to honour the best performances from last year.
Last evening, it was raining stars at the Rabindra Mandap auditorium at the event organised by Banichitra, a cultural organisation. This was the 46th edition of the annual affair.
Mun Eka Tumara, which has been sweeping all major film awards of the state, scripted the same success story here. While Sabyasachi Mishra bagged the best actor, Archita Sahu took home the best actress award. Director Susant Mani received the best director and the romantic drama was also adjudged the best film.
Since both Susant and Archita were nor present, Sabyasachi received the awards on their behalf. “I am delighted that not only the viewers, but very senior film journalists and film critics have also found our film and performances better than the rest. I am overwhelmed by their kind gesture,” said the actor.
Actor and newly-elected MLA Akash Das Nayak got the “most popular actor” award. His aunt Anita Das got the Lifetime Achievement Award along with Sachi Das for their contributions to the fields of visual and performing arts.
Samaresh Routray, who walked away with the award for the best actor in a negative role, thanked the organisers for encouraging the Odia film industry that is struggling to stay afloat. While Routray got his award for his role in the film Mu Aashiq, Mu Awara, his female counterpart Bidusmita received the award for Kehi Jane Bhala Lagere.
Minaketan and Pratibha Panda got an award each for their character roles. A couple of star kids, Amlan, son of actor Mihir Das, and Sambhabana, daughter of Snigdha Mohanty, who made their debuts with flicks Target and Mu Raja Tu Rani respectively won the best newcomer awards. Senior composer Manmath Mishra received the award for best music director for his work in ACP Sagarika.
Many technicians were also felicitated on the occasion. Apart from the film awards, many deserving actors from the world of television, theatre and jatra were honoured.
The auditorium was jam-packed with fans coming in hordes to cheer for their favourite stars.
