Bhubaneswar, Nov. 12: It's a child's play for the 56-year-old Mohan Sahu of the city to climb up to roofs with ease and bring down illegal hoardings. His deft skills have earned him the title of the city's "Spiderman".

Sahu has been bringing down as many as 16 high-rise hoardings hanging between Raj Mahal Square and Sishu Bhavan Square every day with his 40-year-old friend Kalia. Over the years, both of them have developed an expertise to bring down mega hoardings from the city's skyline.

It took a long time for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to spot the expertise of Sahu, who hails from Jagannath Prasad area in Ganjam district and has been serving as a Class III employee with the civic body for the past 30 years.

He takes everything as a challenge and never backs out from climbing atop the structure of any type of hoardings and removing them. The mere scale of the height of a hoarding and the complexity associated with its location are no deterrents for him.

Sahu never uses a safety rope or any other life-saving gear while climbing the heights. He believes that his dedication towards his work over the years has brought him this occupational expertise.

"I am not sure if I am as fast as some superhero. But, I have no fear for heights and that helps me climb up any types of buildings and dismantling the illegal display boards," he said.

The civic body's additional commissioner Alok Kumar Kar said Sahu and his team of workers engaged to remove hoardings were dedicated and helping them in enforcing the hoarding regulation guidelines.

"I must say that his team has made our work a lot easier," said Kar.

The municipal corporation, in a joint enforcement drive with the Bhubaneswar Development Authority, started dismantling rooftop hoardings along the Raj Mahal Square-Bapuji Nagar stretch on Thursday. Yesterday, it continued doing the axe drive on the stretch up to Sishu Bhavan Square. Illegal hoardings were removed from the traffic intersection to make the roads safer for the commuters.
