Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will write to its Bengal counterpart to remove the signboards put up by the irrigation and water resources department of the neighbouring state from Udaypur beach within a fortnight.

"If no action is taken by the Bengal government within the stipulated period, the local administration will remove the sign board," said Odisha's revenue minister Maheswar Mohanty after a meeting held at the secretariat to discuss the issue.

A signage has been put up by the Bengal government along the road laid by the Odisha government stating that it was part of Digha beach. The matter was pointed out by higher education and industries minister Ananta Das, who is the local Bhograi MLA.

Raising the issue at the meeting, Das condemned the move of Bengal government and demanded expeditious action. The meeting decided to take legal action if the Bengal government did not respond to Odisha's plea within fifteen days. Besides, Mohanty advised the officials to expedite the work of the joint demarcation committee, set up in 2016 to settle inter-state border disputes.

It was also decided to set up a check gate on Odisha border, take up infrastructure development and initiate steps to attract tourists. The meeting also decided to build an inspection bungalow at Udaypur by the revenue department and take up various measures for development of Udaypur beach by the forest and environment and tourism departments.
